MYKONOS HISTORY
Beginning
In the year 1873 when the Archaeologists of the French School were excavating the sacred nearby island of Delos they decided that they needed a place to rest and eat. The most convenient place was the opposite island of Mykonos.
Rich and Famous
On the early 50’s more and more rich and famous discover the island. Among them the Greek croesus Onasis and the opera singer Maria Callas, the Greek Royal couple and many Hollywood stars and European have followed. Among them Marlon Brando, Grayce Kelly, Richard Burton became fans of the island.
Mascot
On October 1955 captain Antonis Haritopoulos finds a dying pelican and the local society names him Petros. Petros becomes the mascot of the island.
60’s
During the 60’s the island remains unspoiled by the massive tourism and on the other hand the night life and social life in general becomes more and more lively.
70’s
The 70’s have been the most glorious period of the island. Pierros bar , nowadays one of the most well known gay bars on the island, offered unforgettable nights and parties up until the morning
Nowadays
Nowadays Mykonos remain one of the most popular islands in Europe. A strange combination of worldwide jetset and young visitors coming to party creates a unique atmosphere and a cultural mixture that makes Mykonos one of the most attractive summer resorts in the world.
